NWSSP Fellowship Program

Northwest Spine and Sports Physicians, P.C. created a musculoskeletal fellowship in 2004. The fellowship is a 12 month intensive training experience consisting of both clinical and didactic learning. The emphasis of the program is on musculoskeletal medicine, interventional spine, and pain management. The program is private practice based in a multi-clinic, outpatient setting, with spinal interventions performed in outpatient surgery center fluoroscopic suites. NWSSP is affiliated with the University of Washington, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and many of our staff hold academic appointments. Upon completion of the fellowship, trainees will have a broad knowledge of musculoskeletal medicine, sports medicine and pain management as well as be competent in lumbar spine interventional procedures.

Accreditation
PASSOR Recognized

The Board of Governors at PASSOR has been increasingly concerned about the quality of fellowship training with the recent proliferation of musculoskeletal fellowships across the country. PASSOR has developed a set of guidelines for fellowships in order to establish a more uniform level of training, and to provide a more consistent and quality experience. Fellowships that meet these guidelines qualify as “PASSOR Recognized”.

In order to become recognized, each fellowship must first have a director who meets specified criteria. The program itself has to meet criteria regarding patient population, practice focus, and teaching. Both the director and fellowship program have to maintain these criteria and demonstrate ongoing academic rigor. The fellowships are reviewed annually by the PASSOR Medical Education Committee before receiving continuing recognition.

The Northwest Spine and Sports Musculoskeletal Fellowship first achieved PASSOR recognition in 2005 and is one of a handful of fellowships that currently meet these rigorous standards.
